THE BRIEF

The challenge

Troy and Janelle weren’t chasing the biggest solar system on the market. Like many dairy farmers, they wanted control over rising electricity costs — and an investment that would keep delivering for decades.

The dairy shed didn’t have one large north-facing roof. Available area was spread across different roof faces, so a “fill every pitch” approach would have wasted money and missed the real goal: making every kilowatt-hour work harder for the farm.

THE DESIGN

Our solution

Around the kitchen table we designed for how the farm actually runs — not a catalogue package. Sixty high-efficiency panels were laid out across the available roof faces to capture energy through the day, not only at midday.

Those arrays were paired with a Sigenergy hybrid battery system. Through the day the battery fills gaps as clouds roll through; excess solar covers evening, overnight and early-morning milking before the farm buys a unit from the grid.

Why this design?

The question wasn’t “How many panels can we fit?” — it was “How can we make every kilowatt-hour work harder for the farm?” That steered capacity, orientation and storage together.

ON SITE

The installation

From the air you see generation sitting on the shed that already carries the dairy load — yards, silos and paddocks in the same frame. On the ground, the Sigenergy stack lives in a purpose-built enclosure with tidy conduit and clear labelling.

Even in mid-winter — when solar is at its lowest — early performance has exceeded expectations. One recent week generated over 170 kWh while importing only 1.63 kWh from the grid.

Looking ahead
